Anesthesia for Patients at Dulac Dental of Springfield
What is general anesthesia?
That's when you go completely out, and the machine breathes for you. You're not breathing; you're completely out. The airway is managed. It's very safe, and, as I mentioned, we'll have an anesthesiologist and an anesthetic machine in the office. That's for some cases and some patients. We'll also have IV sedation available.
What's IV sedation?
You get an IV, and you go to sleep while breathing for yourself. At the end of the procedure, you wake up. To the patient, it's going to seem very similar, but depending on your health history, the case, and the duration of the case, different patients need different things.
We'll be offering this service starting in December of 2025. I'm very excited about that, and we'll be working with Dr. Davis, an anesthesiologist, to provide this service to our patients. If this is something you're interested in, please give us a call.
A lot of our patients are nervous about dental procedures. We do everything to make patients comfortable: blankets, pillows, headrests, noise-canceling headphones, earplugs, whatever makes you comfortable. We have also had nitrous oxide in the office for a number of years. It's very safe to drive afterward. It's a gas you breathe in and out during the procedure, and at the end, it's totally flushed out of your system. Very safe and very easy to drive afterward. However, we have some patients who are still a little more nervous and want to be completely put to sleep. We'll now be offering general anesthesia and IV sedation at the office.
