Dental Implants

Dental implants are natural-looking replacement teeth that are fixed in the jaw.Dental implants are the standard of care for replacing missing teeth and provide a fixed solution to removable dentures. Dental implants are natural-looking replacement teeth that are fixed in the jaw.

Dr. Dulac places and restores dental implants in Springfield, VA. Having the same doctor place and restore the implant offers numerous advantages. If you have an existing relationship with a periodontist or oral surgeon who you prefer to place the implant, Dr. Dulac is happy to work closely with the surgeon to plan you case so that you achieve the best possible final outcome.

The implant itself is an artificial tooth root made of titanium, an implant is surgically placed into the jawbone to support tooth-replacement structures such as crowns, bridges and dentures. While the implant mimics the root of the tooth, the replacement structure looks and feels just like a natural tooth, providing patients with a permanent solution that replicates the fit and feel of natural teeth.

Full Arch Implants

Full arch implants are an option for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth and are seeking to reconstruct their entire mouth for restored function and appearance.Full arch implants are an option for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth and are seeking to reconstruct their entire mouth for restored function and appearance. Missing teeth can lead to serious dental problems and can significantly inhibit your ability to eat and speak. Full arch restoration implants are most often placed with dentures or bridges, providing patients with a natural and functional restored smile that offers numerous advantages over traditional removable dentures.

Dr. Dulac works closely with local surgeons and labs to provide “teeth-in-day” services, where you walk out with implant retained teeth the day of implant surgery. Ask Dr. Dulac, one of the leading dentists in Springfield, VA about this service to learn more.

Implant Restoration

Dental implants are essentially titanium metal roots placed in ones jawbone. After these implants fuse with a person’s bone we can add a single tooth here, bridgework or even removable appliances. They are very successful and long lasting with minimal discomfort.

Get your crowns in one visit!

Our patients enjoy the convenience of getting their crowns in one visit, without a temporary, or need to return for another visit.

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a revolutionary system that allows your dentist to design, create and fit a new crown, veneer, onlay or inlay in a single visit. This procedure would normally take up to three weeks at the lab.

The multi-instrument CEREC system is a CAD (Computer Aided Design) / CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) system that consists of a digital camera, a computer with 3-D imaging software, and a milling unit for quick, precise, and highly detailed milling of crowns and other restorations.

This system allows Dr. Dulac to make your crown while you wait at the office without need to return for another visit.

Endodontics is the diagnosis and treatment of problems with the inside of the tooth, the soft tissue known as dental pulp. The most common endodontic procedure is the root canal. Dr Dulac has extensive experience in performing root canals.

Root canals are performed to save a tooth when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected due to decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, cracks, chips or other injuries. Dr Dulac also performs apicoectomies or removal of the tip of the root, which is useful for certain types of failed root canals. In some cases an apicoectomy can be cheaper and less traumatic than an extraction and dental implant.

For more complex endodontic procedures, Dr Dulac works with some great Endodontists (Root canal specialists) in the area and can refer you to one if needed.

Ever wonder why actors and actresses have such great smiles? In many cases, those Hollywood smiles are actually veneers.

Porcelain veneers are a fantastic way to repair or enhance the appearance of front teeth. They can be used to whiten teeth, close spaces and create a great smile. Using veneers, we can even perform virtually “instant orthodontics” to straighten crooked teeth, fix chipped and worn teeth, and give you the bright smile you always wanted.

If you’re not interested in Invisalign®, but want a great smile, veneers are a great option.

CBCT (Cone Beam CT) Scan or a 3-D Xray is a revolutionary technology that has emerged in the last 10 years that allows Dr Dulac to see the teeth and jaw bones in 3d as they truly exist in your mouth rather than simply compressed into one plane as a traditional 2-d xray would.

This technology is the standard of care for implant placement.

This technology also allows Dr Dulac to do guided implant surgery. Dr Dulac is able to merge a CEREC scan of your teeth with the 3d xray. This merger allows Dr Dulac to plan where your implant will be placed, and then fabricate a guide for surgery that ensures the implant is placed in the ideal location.

In addition to being the standard of care for implants, this diagnostic tool is also great for improving root canal outcomes, and assessing a broad variety of pathology previously not possible to assess with traditional 2-d xrays.

We make every effort to save your teeth, but in the case that an extraction is the best treatment option, Dr Dulac has extensive experience extracting teeth and will not need to refer you to an oral surgeon for extractions in most cases.

Because he also places implants, if you would like your implant placed at the same time as the tooth is removed, Dr Dulac can do that for you as well.

At Dulac Dental of Springfield, we use only tooth colored restorative materials and offer gold work by request. If you need a filling or crown, it will be matched to the color of your surrounding teeth. See our general dentistry page to learn more about the services we offer including bleaching, fillings, crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays, veneers, and other cosmetic dentistry services in Springfield VA. With our CEREC technology, you can get your crown the same day.

Full and partial dentures replace the missing teeth both aesthetically and functionally, providing support and restoring the smile. Patients who have lost their natural teeth due to decay, periodontal disease or injury can suffer from difficulty eating and speaking, and drooping of facial muscles. Full and partial dentures replace the missing teeth both aesthetically and functionally, providing support and restoring the smile. Full (complete) dentures are used when all of the natural teeth have been lost, while partial dentures fill in the gaps between natural teeth.

Dental implants have greatly improved the function of traditional dentures and partial dentures. It is now possible to attach your dentures into dental implants for improved fit and retention. If you have an ill-fitting denture or partial denture, ask Dr. Dulac about retaining your denture with implants!

At our office we use the Zoom!® System which is a one-hour, one appointment treatment for in-office whitening for patients wanting immediate results.

We also offer custom bleaching trays and bleaching gel to touch up and keep your teeth as white as they can be.

Cleaning and Prevention

They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Dr. Dulac is a strong advocate of patient education and preventive dentistry. Patients who come in for regular cleanings spend far less money on their teeth in the long run than those who do not get regular cleanings and check-ups.

We offer an array of routine preventive services in addition to cleanings to including exams and X-rays to catch problems early. Oral cancer screenings, which are always included in every exam Dr Dulac performs, oral hygiene instruction on how to brush and floss, sealants which have been shown to reduce decay by about 75%, and fluoride treatments. Dr Dulac recommends a fluoride varnish for most patients after dental cleanings to reduce decay risk and help protect the teeth.

The health of your mouth is vital to the health of your entire body. Gum disease has been linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, low birth weight and other health problems including erectile dysfunction in men and pancreatic cancer. You can keep your teeth healthy by brushing and flossing every day as well as getting regular dental exams. Dr. Dulac recommends electric toothbrushes to his patients. Sonicare is the brand Dr. Dulac recommends, and we do offer them through the office.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns are used to strengthen and improve the shape, size or color of teeth. They can support broken or weak teeth or those with large fillings. They are utilized when a tooth can no longer be filled. Dr. Dulac is able to provide same-day crowns utilizing the CEREC technology. For more details please see the page on CEREC or CAD/CAM crowns.

Bridges are natural-looking tooth replacements which help maintain facial structure, reduce stress on the jaw and fill in the gaps caused by missing teeth. Fixed bridges are cemented to the existing teeth and do not come out. With the evolution of dental implants, implants are considered the standard of care for replacing missing teeth. However, not all patients are candidates for implants. If you have insufficient bone, a bridge might be the best option. Additionally, bridges can be fabricated more quickly than implants can be placed, and the initial cost of a bridge is sometimes cheaper than an implant. For many patients, bridges are still the best option for replacing missing teeth.

White Composite Fillings

Unsightly metal fillings can make an otherwise beautiful teeth look unattractive. Now fillings are specially designed to match the natural color of the tooth. Directly-bonded, tooth-colored resin fillings can make a tooth look like new, whether they are used for small areas of decay or to replace defective older fillings. At Dulac Dental of Springfield, we use only tooth-colored fillings.

Inlays and Onlays

In addition to crowns and fillings, we’re also able to offer inlays and onlays. Inlays and onlays ore the size and shape of fillings but are porcelain restorations, made out of the ceramic material that crowns are made out of, and last much longer than fillings. They’re more conservative than a crown, and longer lasting than a filling. The CEREC technology makes these a great option for our patients.

See our CAD/CAM CEREC page to learn more!

Dr. Dulac has a PerioLase® Laser in the office. The laser is a great adjunct to traditional periodontal therapies to help with gum disease. It can also be used for other minor gum surgeries and to remove annoying canker sores.

With laser periodontal therapy, a tiny laser fiber (about the thickness of three hairs) is inserted between the tooth and the gum. The procedure is fast: It takes just minutes following a cleaning or scaling and root planning (deep cleaning) procedure. Dr. Dulac or one of his laser-certified hygienists will treat the affected area. The laser kills off bacteria and removes infected skin cells to help the gums reattach to the tooth. The laser improves healing and recovery in a quick and pain-free fashion.

The laser is also great for desensitizing canker sores. The laser is waved multiple times above the canker sore. Following laser treatment, the area is pain-free and heals quickly.

Sleep apnea is a common condition that involves breathing problems during sleep. The throat muscles relax and block the airway. Snoring is disrupted air flow; sleep apnea is a blockage of air flow. Sleep apnea affects about 18 million people in the U.S. and patients with sleep apnea often experience loud snoring and daytime sleepiness. Patients with sleep apnea can experience loss of air flow hundreds of times per night, sometimes for a minute or longer.

Because sufferers are roused from sleep briefly to resume proper breathing, disrupting and lowering the quality of a person’s rest, sleep apnea can cause a number of problems. If left untreated, it can result in high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, memory problems, weight gain, impotency, headaches, and daytime fatigue leading to job impairment and motor vehicle crashes. Sleep apnea should always be diagnosed by a sleep specialist.

Sleep Apnea Appliances

There are a variety of treatments available for sleep apnea, including oral appliance therapy. Oral appliances are also very effective for treating snoring. If you’re interested in an oral appliance for sleep apnea or snoring, talk with Dr. Dulac to discuss which oral appliance is right for you.

Preventive care is an essential part of ensuring oral health. With that in mind, we make sure to include an array of routine preventive services in our comprehensive patient exams. These include:

  • Physical inspection of the teeth and gums
  • X-rays
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Cleaning and flossing
  • Sealants
  • Fluoride treatment

We also take in-depth medical histories from each of our patients when they come to our office. This helps us better understand our patients’ current health, predict what problems might develop in the future, and keep track of any medications they are taking that may impact their dental health.
